The Coveted List August 2017

What you Need This August

Summer is in full swing. Lots of fun pool parties, dining al fresco, weekends at the beach. Its my favorite season and I  am never ready for it to be over.

Although most schools here in Arizona are already back, my son starts back on Monday and I am so sad! All the other moms are always high fiving when the kids go back to school, and I am the one in the corner trying hard not to cry. I’ve been running around getting all the back to school prepping done, while organizing magazine shoots, teaching a pro makeup artistry class and prepping for some more international travel. Suffice to say it has been a busy month so far!

With my crazy schedule I hardly ever get to go to the mall or go to brick and mortar stores. I do my shopping online.

This month’s coveted list is based on items in my online shopping carts – my visual wish list!

The Rebecca Minkoff Cross Body Saddle Bag

Rebecca Minkoff Cross Body Saddle Bag

I love this bag. it reminds me of the (out-of-my-price-range) Chloe Marcie bag. The Rebecca Minkoff Cross Body Saddle Bag comes in 2 sizes, the small vanity and the regular/large size. I love the shape, I love the length that it hangs to when just worn on the shoulder, and for travel I just love that it works worn cross body. Plenty of long strapped bags don’t work when you wear them as a cross body bag. The bulk of the bag hits at the wrong place and suddenly your hips look thick or your waist looks boxy. This bag fits the body perfectly when worn cross body and also when worn just hanging from the shoulder.

I’m getting the large size, so that I can fit my glasses, camera, phone etc. I always seem to drag around far more stuff in my handbag than most people.

Rebecca Minkoff Mini MAC Bag

Another Minkoff bag that is worth looking at is the Mini Mac bag. When I travel I see this bag everywhere. It too work perfectly as a cross body bag, making it the perfect travel handbag. Both bags come in a variety of colors, so you have lots of choices to take you across all seasons.

Available online at Bloomingdales.com

SK-II Facial Treatment Essence

SK-II Facial Treatment Essence

Every celebrity’s favorite skin care product! SK-II’s Facial Treatment Essence is the perfect rescue product for the end of summer . It’s actually ideal for any time of year. This clear liquid is super rich in vitamins, amino acids, organic acids and minerals. It penetrates the skin far deeper than a moisturizer can, and goes to work hydrating, smoothing, clearing, and giving you an unparalleled radiance.

But don’t just take my word for it – see some of the celebs who swear by SK-II Facial Treatment Essence and read some of the very powerful customer reviews of the product here.

Charlotte Tilbury Bar Of Gold

Charlotte Tilbury Bar Of Gold

I find most highlighters to be too shimmery. When you see something frosty and flickery on the cheek bone it just looks plain crazy, and as far as I’m concerned it distracts instead of enhances. Charlotte Tillbury Bar Of Gold gives a very controllable glow to the skin. You can work magic with the cheekbones using the Bar of Gold. As we move into fall it is absolutely delicious on candlelit evenings. I like using it on the eye too, either to wake up the inner corner or to create a gorgeous golden glow. The Charlotte Tilbury Bar Of Gold sells out all the time so you need to buy it when you see it. You can find it online at CharlotteTilbury.com

The Away Medium Suitcase

Away Travel Medium Suitcase Sand

Away luggage is the most chic thing to carry at the moment! I am in the market for a new suitcase right now, and this is the one I want. It is my most coveted thing –  look at it online everyday. The Away Traveler poly-carbonate shell is unbreakable, it is scratchproof and scuff marks wipe right off, (so it always looks chic), there is magic in the telescopic handle, the premium Hinomoto 360 degree wheels make it very easy to maneuvre through airports. And it looks really cool.

Away has 2 stores, one in LA and one in NYC. All other sales are directly through their website. By eliminating the middle man they are able to keep the price super affordable. Check out AwayTravel.com here.

OUAI Hair Oil

OUAI Hair Oil

OUAI is everyone’s favorite hair product line at the moment! I have been loving their Wave Spray this summer and now I’m going to add OUAI Hair Oil to my list of products. This is a multi purpose product. You can use it to de-frizz, smooth and control hair (hello summer humidity!) and to add shine. You can also sleep in it, using it as a night time treatment product. OUAI products are pretty high performance and they smell gorgeous too! You can find OUAI online at Sephora.com.

The Fuji Instax Mini 70

I want the Fuji Instax Mini 70 camera so much! I’m obsessed with it in yellow.

Fuji Instax Mini 70 Yellow

When I travel I journal every day, then when I get home try to remember to print photos to go with each story. It hardly ever happens.

The Fuji Instax is perfect because it is like a polaroid (but its not Kodak), so you can print out photos on the spot. Which makes it fun as well as functional! There are a few different Fuji Instax cameras. I found the Mini 70 to be the best. In my (literally) exhaustive research over the past few weeks I found all kinds of pricing. The best deal I saw was here at Walmart.com where they are giving you a case, 3 packs of film (30 pics), a cleaning kit, batteries all for $105 along with free shipping.

Marc Jacobs Beauty Velvet Noir Major Volume Mascara

I love Marc Jacobs Velvet Noir Major Volume Mascara . I recently found out that this is the mascara that Adele’s makeup artist uses on her, which of course just totally gave me life! I originally received Velvet Noir Major Volume Masara in a Sephora gift bag and now am pretty obsessed. This mascara is all about making big, fat, luscious lashes.

I know the Marc Jacobs Beauty website has some kind of sale going on right now, so I’m going to order a couple of tubes to get me through the end of the year.

Beware: This Popular Drugstore Face Scrub Is Facing A Lawsuit!

Smooth summer skin

We all know that the key to a glowing complexion is to keep the skin exfoliated. Dry, dead skin cells cluttering up the surface of the skin  leave our complexions looking dull, drab, and uneven, and cause our makeup to look chunky and unflattering. They even cause blackheads and breakouts!

Now that  spring is here we are all thinking about exfoliating winter away and prepping our skin for the days of sunshine ahead. We need to smooth out the skin both on our faces and on our bodies too.

St Ives Apricot Scrub Lawsuit

One of the most well know exfoliators, St Ives Apricot Scrub, is facing a class action lawsuit. Claims state that the crushed walnut shells in the popular scrub actually cause microscopic tears in the skin, can damage the skin, and in fact state that the product is “unfit to be sold or used as a facial scrub”

Personally I am not a fan of facial scrubs, and if you have been reading this blog for a while you will have heard me say this already many times! I am a makeup artist, not a scientist or dermatologist, so anything I say is my opinion only, but my personal feeling is that scrubs are like coarse sandpaper on the face. Yes they may definitely scour off the dead cells like a brillo pad, but I am convinced they also scratch up the baby skin underneath, creating a perpetual cycle of rough skin.

If you have been using St Ives Apricot Scrub you may want to do a little research on the lawsuit, and get some more information on what they claim the product does to your skin. In the mean time lets look at some other options you can use to clear away the dead cells and get the glowing complexion that you deserve.

My favorite facial exfoliators are enzyme masks and enzyme products. The enzymes act like pac man on your face, eating away the dead cells and leaving you with the most gorgeous, glowing skin. The mostly are made up of fruit enzymes, and are a lovely, refreshing way to find your new skin.

I have a variety of them in my bathroom cabinet. My most recent is Tatcha’s Gentle Rice Enzyme Powder.  A full sized jar of it was in my Spring 2017 Zoe Report Box Of Style. I had forgotten how much I love this product! I is so gentle, yet gives you sensational results.

From Memebox, my favorite supplier of magical Korean skin care I buy peeling gels. I don’t have a specific favorite, just whatever they have in stock for my skin type. In all the years that I have been using Korean Skin Care I have not had one product from Memebox that I haven’t totally loved. (and everything they sell is incredibly affordable!)

For Body Exfoliating I don’t mind using scrubs. In the past I went through spells of making my own, but now I always seem to buy them.

There’s something a little bit luxurious about opening up a jar of Body Scrub that someone else has made!

If you’ve been following this blog for a while then  you already know I am crazy about the Zoe Report Box Of Style.

It is literally the coolest thing ever.

Rachel Zoe curates a luxe box of style essentials for each season – items that anchor your season. From killer handbags, to huge jewelry pieces to makeup and skin care, clothing items, lifestyle items – you will not even believe this box! I get super excited waiting for the new box to ship. Not only are the goodies inside to die for, but the packaging is just gorgeous. Opening my Box of Style feels like a reward for working so hard all the time. It makes me feel special and it makes me feel spoiled.

Amongst all the other goodies there is always a hero item in each box that is worth $150 – $200. In the winter 2016 Box Of Style the hero piece was a completely fabulous Dylanlex necklace worth $200! Beyonce is a big Dylanlex fan, but unless she ordered a Box of Style she won’t have this piece because it was designed specially for Rachel Zoe.

Zoe Report Winter Box Of Style

I wore mine all winter long! In the image above you can see we got a full sized Sunday Riley Tidal cream, a leather business card holder (super cool), the lip shade of the season from Clinique, a really cool winter beanie (you got to choose the color, I chose merlot), a full size DL & Co birch scented candle as well as a small bottle of Viva Juicy eau de parfum. Awesome, non?

Box of Style Winter 2017

The spring 2017 Box of Style is getting ready to ship and Rachel Zoe has been teasing some of the items we will be getting. This time every product is from a female owned company.

The hero product is a sustainably produced black and white carryall from Tribe Alive, handmade by female artisans in India.

“Without meaningful employment these women could have fallen into the sex trade epidemic which runs rampant in the communities we work,” shares Tribe Alive founder Carly Burson.

The bag provided skills training and fair wages to the ladies who made them.

“Our partnership with Tribe Alive yielded a beautiful handbag while providing five months of employment for more than 150 Indian artisan partners in three cities. From the weavers in Panipat to master tailors and leather workers in Delhi to the logistics team in Jaipur, this bag positively impacted every link of the supply chain. That’s truly a wow factor.”
