Jessica Simpson Covers New York Magazine Spring Fashion Issue

This makes me happy on so many levels!!
Jessica Simpson on the cover of New York Magazine’s Spring Fashion Issue

Firstly, I am loving these images! If there is one thing Jessica Simpson knows, its how to take a great picture! But actually, there is something else she knows too, and that is how to build a giant fashion empire.

In 2010 Jessica Simpson’s fashion empire rang up $750 million in sales.
To put this in perspective, that means she is selling approximately the same volume as heavy weight Michael Kors.
This year with the addition of a full ready to wear collection and a “career separates” line, sales are expected to hit the $1 billion mark.

In an industry where celebrity clothing lines are doomed to fail (with the exception of the Olsen twins brilliant lines, and Victoria Beckham’s divine but tiny dress line, very few actually make it)
The magic formula seems to be the goal that: “A girl could go to the shopping mall with her mother and she’d have a great new outfit and still have some money left for lunch at McDonald’s. She can look like Jessica Simpson, smell like Jessica Simpson, and she can afford it.”

After all the attacks Jessica has had to endure about her music, her acting, her love life and her fluctuating weight, you’d think she’d enjoy taking this moment to turn her nose up at her detractors.
But not so.
Everyone who knows her (as in people at my end of the industry) talk about how totally lovely she is. Even douchey John Mayer who famously labeled her “sexual napalm” (which has to be the best compliment ever, especially allowing for how much he gets around!), races to her defense, and tells what a sweet and lovely girl she is.
And so, with sweet grace and dignity she moves forward, looking incredibly hot as she takes it all the way to the bank.

Kim Kardashian Harpers Bazaar Cleopatra

I actually had something else planned for today, more Valentines stuff, but got completely sidetracked when I saw this Kim Kardashian Harpers Bazaar cover.

Oddly enough, the cover image is virtually identical to the Harpers Bazaar Christina Hendricks cover, pose and all.

Both were shot by Terry Richardson.

In this issue, Kim Kardashian interviews her idol, Elizabeth Taylor.
Which I thought was quite odd, but of course I’m reading every line of the story.

Kim also did a photoshoot to go with the piece, dressed as a Liz Taylor inspired Cleopatra.

 Kim talks about plastic surgery:
‘Some people say, ‘You’ve definitely had your nose done.’ If I had, I would say, ‘Here’s the doctor, he’s amazing, and I’ll make the appointment for you.’ Sometimes I’ll see pictures that say I’ve had my nose done, and the before pic is after the after.’ She adds, ‘Someone saw me last night and my nose was so contoured. And they were like, ‘You’ve had your nose done?’ And I was like, ‘No, wait until I wash my face.”

On getting botox:
‘All my friends had done it, and I was curious. But I saw such a change in what my face looked like. It didn’t work for me. Someone told me yesterday that I needed it. That is so ridiculous.’

I love this shot.
Apparently Kim is wearing one of Liz Taylor’s original Cleopatra robes.

There’s even a behind the scenes video…

Sexiest Man On Earth – Tom Ford, Interview Magazine

Oh this brings me joy!
The sexiest man-beast on earth, A.K.A Tom Ford on the cover of February’s Interview magazine.

I mean, honestly – how totally hot is he???
Although he is putting the final touches on his new screenplay, the interview talks a lot about his return to the fashion biz. And lets face it, Tom has a unique perspective on and understanding of a woman’s body. And how to drape it and dress it.

“I DECIDED I WOULD NEVER GO BACK to FASHION

until I HAD SOMETHING NEW to SAY,

until I COULD HAVE FUN CREATING FASHION AGAIN.

It HAD BECOME REALLY FORMULAIC.”

—Tom Ford

I do prefer those shots where he has an open necked white shirt on, but any picture of Tom Ford is better than, well, one without Tom Ford in it.

“OUR BEAUTY STANDARD TODAY

IS OFTEN VERY ANGRY AND HARD AND OFF-PUTTING . . .

LESS APPROACHABLE THAN IT WAS IN THE ’70’s.

TO ME, FASHION SHOULD MAKE YOU

WANT TO BE FRIENDS WITH THAT PERSON!

THEY SHOULDN’T SCARE YOU”

.—Tom Ford

My favorite line in the story?
I explained how when I come home I actually
take off all my clothes, and I wear no clothes until I leave. I eat naked. I do everything completely naked. He said, “That would make a great interview.” I said, “Fine, we have to do it nude.”

Ooooh Tom!!
