Every girl who wears makeup wants tips on how to make it last longer or look better. Here are 12 essential tips you need to know.

12 Essential Makeup Tips

Timing

1.Allow a minute or two between applying your moisturizer and your sunscreen to let your moisturizer soak in, and then another couple of minutes between your sunscreen and your primer. This will help your makeup to glide on more seamlessly and last all day.

Foundation

2.Foundation is supposed to make your skin look flawless and perfect, but still actually look like skin. A thick layer of opaque, full cover foundation doesn’t look like skin, and generally looks awful. Choose the sheerest formula of foundation you can, and apply it sparingly.

3. Your foundation color choice should be based on your skin’s undertone. Warm toned girls need warm based foundations, cool toned girls need cool based foundations. Nothing will look right if you don’t get this most basic principal right!

Powder

4. Powder sets foundation. If you want your foundation to stay on all day you need to set it.

Eyebrows

5. Nothing changes your face more than your eyebrows! If you have a small space between your brow and your lash-line, accent the upper edge of your brow to open the eye space. If you have a large gap between lash-line and brow you can soften it by accenting the lower edge of your brow. Too much color in the inner third of the brow can make you look angry and make your eyes look too close set.

Lifting through the arch and creating a slight extra tail to the brow can make the eyes look more alert and further spaced apart.

*Heavy eyebrow makeup can collapse a face.

**There is no place in the world for Instagram eyebrows.

Contour

6. Contour on the cheeks should be subtle. It should create a slight shadow under the cheekbone, making the bone look a little more pronounced and lifted. If the person standing next to you can see a brown contour line it is an epic makeup fail!

Bronzer

7. Bronzer is to make you look like you have been outside in the sunshine. It is not a contour product, and it is not to correct a foundation that is too pale. Bronzer is one of the greatest makeup products ever created, and also the most abused. Keep your bronzer subtle, apply it to the high planes of the face – forehead, cheekbones, chin, and also apply to your collarbones if they will be exposed.

Liquid and gel bronzers help you look glowy instead of shimmery.

Primer

8. Eye shadow primer will make your eye shadow last longer (hopefully all day) and will boost the color.

Mascara

9. Waterproof mascara should only be worn when you are planning on swimming or crying! Daily use of waterproof can lead to lash breakage and thinning. (not based on science, but based on years of doing makeup and seeing broken lashes on girls who wear waterproof all the time!)

10. Waterproof mascara should be removed with an eye-makeup remover that is designed to dissolve waterproof makeup. This helps to minimize breakage.

Lipstick

11. Dark lipstick is incredibly aging. It also makes lips look thinner, more compressed, and angry. If you are older or have thin lips, dark lipstick is your enemy.  Matte lipstick is not a great choice for an older woman. It makes the lip look deflated and dry.

Were you an overzealous plucker as a teen? Leave kids alone long enough with a magazine and they’ll start experimenting to look like their favorite celeb—#thingsweregret.

Some of these bold beauty adventures leave behind permanent effects in the form of thinned out brows, or worse—blank spaces. Even if we manage to refrain from waxing, tweezing and threading for a bit, some hair just is not growing back—on its own.

According to eye specialist and esthetician Denise Wilson at Sublime Eyes, a walk-in brow bar in Hollywood, there IS a solution. You can promote hair growth in these otherwise “lost cause” areas by following a fairly simple nightly routine—no pricey products required.
According to Wilson, “Apply a mixture of castor oil, vitamin E, and argan oil each night by rubbing it into the brow with a Q-tip or your finger, and keep it on until morning.

Pay attention to the areas where you are no longer growing new or thick hair. It’s an old beauty secret we’ve been using at the salon to help clients achieve a fuller brow and even out hair. Clients usually see results in a few months.” A few months is a small price to pay for getting your brows back!

If you’re in Hollywood, stop by the salon; it gives away a free vial of the oil combo to all clients.

Otherwise, shop for organic cold-pressed Poppy Austin Argan Oil($22), Greatfull Skin Vitamin E Oil ($30), and Organic Castor Oil ($19) to DIY a potion at home.

How To Get The Perfect Eyebrow Shape for Your Face

eyebrow-techniques

I am eyebrow obsessed.
Not with those crazy, square, shiny brows that are all over Instagram, but with perfect, eye framing, face balancing brows.
A well executed brow is a work of art.

Check out this brow story written by Juliana Chow for Career Girl Daily.
There is a tutorial from Michelle Phan inside the story. I’m not sure I agree with her brow color theory, but I love her brow shape theory.

How To Get The Perfect Eyebrow Shape

Eyebrows are everywhere and anywhere these days, from runaway models to Instagram #browperfection, eyebrows are the most talked about beauty obsession of our time. Nowadays there are hundreds of make-up products on the market that will help you achieve your desired eyebrow look. You can even get thick Cara eyebrows with eyebrow extensions, that is apparently getting increasingly popular. Not that the fuzz is at all overrated because it is after all the brows that frame our eyes and face, which makes it important for us to know how to get the eyebrow shape perfectly right. Whether you want Cara Delevingne, Kendall Jenner eyebrows, or simply eyebrows that fit your personality, here is how you get them absolutely perfect-looking.

ANALYZE YOUR FACIAL FEATURES AND ENVISION

Spend time in front of the mirror, take a couple or selfies and analyze your face. By figuring which face shape you have, you can get a general guideline on which eyebrow shape would fit your face shape the best. Now, try finding celebrities that you admire, or that has a similar face shape as you, and try to envision how you really want your eyebrows to frame your face.

“TRIM THAT BEAST”

When you have a general idea of how you want your eyebrows to look, whether it is thick, thin or arched eyebrows, take a concealer and try concealing the areas that you want to trim, before tweezing away. When you are satisfied with the look, use a tweezer to pluck any unwanted hair between and below the area of your eyebrows. If the plucking hurts, use an ice cube to soothe the pain.

GRAB YOUR PENCIL, AND FILL ‘EM IN

Find a really good eyebrow pencil that fits your need, shape, and color. The rule of thumb is, that the color of your eyebrows should be 2-3 shades lighter if your have dark hair, and 2-3 shades darker if you have blonde hair. If you do not want to spend too much time filling in your eyebrows every day, the fastest and easiest method is using an eyebrow pencil. Though if you wish to upgrade your eyebrow game and spend a bit more time on perfecting them, try using a powder kit and brush. Note, that filling in your brows with powder will often make your brows appear softer, than they would with a pencil! When filling in your brows, try measuring your starting point, the natural arch and ending point of your brows. Lastly, set your eyebrows with a brow gel, so they will stay in place all day.
