Oscars Red Carpet

best of oscars 2017 red carpet

It’s my favorite day of the year!

(well, my favorite day not spent in Italy…)

This year I’m not in Los Angeles working the Academy Awards, which kills me, but on the bright side I get to see the red carpet happen live on TV, so it’s not all bad! It seems like every year it is either boiling hot, and everyone is sweltering, or it’s pouring rain. This year the hottest accessory is an umbrella. Actually the big accessory was the blue ribbon everyone was sporting to show their support for the ACLU.

HereĀ are some of the big trends and most gorgeous dresses on the Oscars red carpet this year:

Olivia Culpo’s Marchesa dress was OK, but with Marchesa I always think it’s just more of the same thing. But I loved her hair and makeup. The purple eye that makeup artist Sir John gave her is everything!

Best Of Beauty ~ Oscars 2016

Best-Of-Beauty-Oscars-2016

So what were your thoughts about the 2016 Oscars Red Carpet beauty?

Frankly I was super under-whelmed. Sometimes it seems as though in a mad effort to look casually cool some of the ladies looked as if they didn’t realize that this is one of the two most glamorous nights in the American year, the other being the Met Gala.
I hate seeing ladies underdone on such a big night.

ho-hum hair and makeup on Alicia Vikander

I was so disappointed in the absolutely gorgeous Alicia Vikander’s hair and makeup for the red carpet. She looked like she was on her way to the supermarket. Or Home Depot. Maybe it was just the hair that bugged me? Because her after party look was fabulous.

At the post-Oscars Vanity fair party Alicia looked amazing. This would have been a far better Red Carpet look.

Brie Larson’s hair and makeup were also too casual in my opinion.
The hair was awful, and the makeup didn’t compliment her eyes.

I really didn’t get it. She looked so much better later in the evening at the Vanity Fair party.

Doesn’t she look lovely here? Why not this look for the Oscars Red Carpet??

My absolute favorite look on the red carpet this year, second to none, was the incredible makeup on Olivia Munn, created by Patrick Tabere.

That lip was everything! Patrick used a combo of
Chanel Rouge Allure Lipsticks 96 and 90,  offset by blush 76 Frivole and 55 by Chanel.

If you are going to stand out for being fabulous, Oscar night is the night to do it.

Olivia’s after party makeup change was also gorgeous.

Other notables were Charlize Theron for being Charlize Theron.

Margot Robbie was perfection.

Jennifer Lawrence’s hair was fantastic and her eye game was strong both for the red carpet (she ran in right as the ceremony was beginning)

and after, when she changed into a very Taylor Swift-esque look.

Rooney Mara’s makeup packed a fierce punch – that brow!!! that lip! that eye!

Chrissie Tiegan’s bronze and gold makeup was lovely, and her wispy, soft hairdo complimented her total look.

Saoirse Ronan’s eye makeup was the perfect counterpoint to her dress. (which I thought was fabulous.)

Rachel McAdams hair and makeup were both perfect.

The Red Carpet Ready Handbag

I’m on my way back to L.A for the greatest red carpet of them all.

I think this is my 10th time, but it may be the 11th.
If I’m not going to be backstage with her keeping her makeup maintained I pack a little bag of goodies for my actress to touch up with throughout the night.

She will be in makeup hours before she hits the red carpet, and then probably until at least 3 or 4 in the morning at the Oscar’s after parties, so she needs some good items to keep her fabulous makeup maintained and photo immaculate until she gets back home again.

Some of the items I pack her are perfect for you too to keep in your handbag on a big night out. Let’s have a look at a few so that you too can keep your handbag red carpet ready.

What-I-Put-In-Red-Carpet-Handbags

1. I’m crazy about these super color saturated Temptu lipsticks at the moment. They give you rich color that holds.

2 and 3. When makeup is starting to feel a bit worn in you can add an instant refresh by lightening and brightening under the eyes with YSL’s Touche Elcat and the patting a little life back into your cheeks with The Multiple by Nars. (I slice a piece off and put it in a little plastic container)

4. I don’t like a powdery look – I prefer the skin to glow, so instead of pressed powder I pack Tatcha blotting papers. They are fabulous and being Tatcha they make everything feel more luxurious!

5. Even seasoned A listers get nervous on the red carpet, and get a dry mouth, which in turn means raunchy breath. I tell my ladies to pop in a Listerine breath strip every so often just for good measure.

6. Even if a matte lip is the biggest thing in fashion I still pack a Chanel lipgloss in her handbag. Matte lips can look dry and cracked after a while, and even if it’s just placed in the center of the lip a little gloss can keep the lips looking supple and kissable.
