New Year, New You, Juvederm Tear Trough Fill

I spent a hearty amount of time over November and December at the Blume Skin Centre in Scottsdale,
observing and learning about the magic that is the injectible face lift.
These days girls and women can put off going under the knife, instead opting for the less invasive, less expensive, medical artistry that comes via a needle.

The crucial factor here is that you must go to someone completely brilliant in the field. Any yahoo can shoot you up with botox, and leave you looking perpetually terrified, or give you overinflated fish-lips, but a true medical artist will give you a face that moves and has expression, will give you back the glow of youth, and do it in such a way that no one will know you’ve been “enhanced”.
You absolutely must do your research to find a truly great practitioner, or, if you are in or near Arizona, I’ve done it for you – go to the Blume Skin Centre.

Whether it be with the mother of the bride, an actor or a socialite, I was constantly escorting clients into the Blume offices for a little fine tuning, be it facial revolumizing, subtle yet exquisite lip enhancing, a little fine line and wrinkle removing, or the fastest road to youth I have ever seen, the Juvederm Tear Trough Fill.

Very few doctors will do the Tear Trough, as it is such a delicate and refined procedure.

To get an understanding of what is going on, you need to understand how light and shadow work.
When you are young the area under the eye has volume.
Its full and rounded, and light bounces off of it, making you look awake, alert, and youthful.

As you age, (and really this starts in your early 20’s) you start to lose volume under the eyes, from the lower lash line to the upper cheek bone. You see a pronounced dip under the eye, which creates shadow and leaves you looking tired and older than your years.

Any place on your face that has craters or troughs, whether they be lost under eye volume, or the depths of a fine line or wrinkle, will suck up light and create a shadow within itself,

making itself look bigger and more menacing, and making you look older.
When you fill these dips with injectable products like Juvederm, the surface area becomes smooth again, and light bounces off it, making you look younger.

When it comes to the under eye area, women typically pile on lighter shades of concealer,
trying to lift out the shadows and make the area look brighter and more alive. When the volume disappears under the eyes, the skin starts to sag a little, so now you have a whole lot of makeup on saggy skin, which not only is never a winning combination, but also makes you look even older.
Vicious circle, non?

A Juvederm Tear Trough Fill is a very quick and comparatively inexpensive procedure which lasts anywhere from a year to 2 years.
The procedures that I have watched have used less than one syringe of Juvederm for both eyes combined.
Dr Blume is nationally reknowned for his subtle lip enhancements, so with my clients he puts the remaining Juvederm into the lips, imperceptibly enhancing and redefining the lip border, ever so slightly fleshing out the pout.

The results are immediate. And spectacular.

Boys do it, girls do it.

They are also pain free, via topical numbing cream.

When your eyes have been refreshed you wear much less makeup. The skin looks brightened, the eyes look awakened. Its magic.

Radiesse Cheek and Temple Fill

I’ve mentioned before that I am constantly sending clients (both of the celebrity kind as well as civilians) off to have a little youth put back into their faces, or for those who are not aging yet, a little enhancement here and there.

Most people these days are familiar enough with neuro-toxins like Botox to knock out fine lines and wrinkles, and hyaluronic acid based fillers like Juvederm to fill up the bigger creases, such as the nasolabial folds (the parenthesis lines from the outer nostril that curve out and around to the outer lip), make the pout more smoochy, or fill sagging tear troughs. But most don’t seem to know too much about facial re-volumizing with Radiesse, the injectible fountain of youth.

As we age, lose large amounts of weight, endure major illnesses, etc, we lose volume in the face.
The face loses its youthful girliness, and starts to look more skeletal.
Cheeks get sunken, temples curve in, the brow bone loses the flesh density that lifts the brow forward, folds in the skin become more pronounced, and the skin itself loses elasticity and collagen, and begins to sag.

No amount of killer skin care products or kicked up makeup tricks make much difference at this point.
Girlfriend starts looking old, often long before her time.
(check out the faces of workout fanatics and marathon runners, even in their early 20’s)

see the hollow on the temple, flat browbone and skeletal look to the cheekbone, creating a sag to the skin. Nasolabial fold is prominent, and gravity is pulling skin downward from the inner corner of the eye.

Many practitioners choose to chase the wrinkles and just keep filling them up with  hyaluronic acid products, which at some point over inflates the face, and leaves the client looking like Cindy Lou Hoo.

Others choose to revolumize the cheeks and temples, lifting that which has fallen, and infusing instant youth.

There are a few product options available.
The most spectacular option that I have seen (consistently, and in many many clients) is with a product called Radiesse.

see the temple filled out, the brow lifted and fleshed out, the cheekbone fleshed out, at the same time lifting the nasolabial fold naturally. The face immediately looks younger and more vibrant. More impressive than anything is how natural it looks!

Radiesse is different from other fillers in that it is not a hyaluronic based product, but instead is a calcium based gel that actually builds a scaffolding under the skin, providing structure, stimulating your own collagen to grow, and giving it something to bind to.
This makes the results last a long, long time.

The official company line is that it lasts over a year. Women who have it will tell you it lasts much longer than that.

The results are spectacular, instant, and totally natural looking.
As in no-one will be able to tell you had a little tune up.

There is still time to get yourself fine tuned before all those last-in-picture-frames-forever holiday pictures start snapping away too.

If you are anywhere near Arizona, I send everyone to The Blume Skin Centre in Scottsdale. Their work is the best I’ve ever seen, and they even have a Radiesse specialist who does a Saturday morning clinic, so you can roll into work on Monday looking fabulous!

see how the skin appears to be dragging downwards in the picture above. There is drag on the skin under the eyes, nasolabial folds look pronounced, outer corners of the mouth are noticeably dragging downlwards.
With no lift to the face the skin lacks vitality – there is nothing for the light to bounce off of.

after re-volumizing with Radiesse the skin lookes plumped up and invigorated. The pulling under the eyes is noticeably diminished, the nasolabial folds start to lift up and out, also raising the outer corners of the mouth.
And she looks natural, not plastic faced.

If you are not somewhere near The Blume Skin Centre in Arizona (I have clients who fly in from as far away as Calgary – they’re that good!), make sure you research your practitioner really well. Look at before and afters, and if possible look at some of their clients.
Also look at the girls that work there. If their faces look funky, too tight, inflated or unmoving, it tends to be a giant red flag.

Juvederm Tear Trough Fill

The holiday season is upon us, with its endless sea of social events and family gatherings, and the ensuing photographs that last forever. And for which a girl has to look youthful and beauteous.
So there’s no time like the present to slip in for a little lunch hour re-tooling, high speed youth regeneration. Think of it as getting a little tune up for you face…

One of the most sensational things you can do for a high speed youth infusion is called a Tear Trough Fill.

As we age, many of us from as early as our 20’s, we lose density under our eyes. The area between the cheekbone and the eye starts to disappear, leaving a deflated, sagging dip. This makes us look varying degrees of tired, sad, and old, way ahead of our time.
Having this area revolumized instantly takes years back off you, and leaves you looking bright, alert and completely refreshed.

Your specialist will inject a hyaluronic acid based filler, most commonly Juvederm, into the area, and mold and shape it so that it looks completely natural, and you will look instantly revitalized.
Actors and models do this to maintain a fresh and youthful look, and I send my clients and luxe ladies who lunch off to have it done all the time.
The procedure is quick and efficient, and lasts over a year.

Tear Trough before
Tear Trough after

A much more enticing concept than going under the knife, and one that anyone can have done.
As it usually only involves one vial of Juvederm, it costs in the vicinity of $500 – $600.

Obviously I’m not a doctor, but as a makeup artist who sees this procedure over and over, I personally feel that Juvederm consistently gives the smoothest, most natural look, and that it does seem to last longer than the other hyaluronic acid based fillers.

Isn’t it amazing??? These are some of Dr Blume’s patients.

As this involves the thinnest skin on the body, and is extremely delicate work, most doctors won’t, or can’t, perform it. In fact you do need to go to an absolute specialist in the field of injectibles, who has a ton of experience with tear trough fills, and lots of before and after pictures of the procedure to show you.

This is a procedure that you must be extremely diligent in the practioner selection process.

Here in Arizona I send all my clients (out of state clients too, from as close as Hollywood, to as far away as Calgary) to Dr Blume at the Blume Skin Centre in Scottsdale.
Dr Blume specializes in the field, and is actually a national trainer for Juvederm. He flies around the country teaching doctors, specialists and plastic surgeons how to perform this procedure, and the most advanced techniques of all other injectible procedures.
