Gifts For The Coffee Lover

Wonderful gift ideas for anyone who loves Italy or who wants to travel to Italy. Especially great for coffee lovers!

Curl up with a good book (great book!) and a fabulous cup of Italian coffee while you dream of going to Italy.  My favorite coffee is Lavazza Crema E Gusto . I buy it every time I’m in Italy, bring back about 10 pounds of it in my suitcase, and then when I run out I buy it on Amazon. This is a hearty, rich, full flavored coffee but it isn’t at all bitter the way some strong coffees are. It is really delicious and everyone who tries it loves it. I buy it in packs of 4 but the 2 pack is still good value. Try the Lavazza 2 Pack Crema E Gusto Ground Coffee 8.8oz/250g Each

I make my coffee most mornings in a french press. I have used the Bodum Chambord French Press Coffee Maker for years. It has been the gold standard in french press coffee makers for as long as I can remember. I received this Alfred But First Coffee French Press Coffee Maker in my Fall 2018 Fab Fit Fun Subscription Box and found it here  on Amazon.com too. It’s fun don’t you think? I start my day thinking …but first, coffee...

the Nespresso Inissia Espresso Machine is the perfect at-home coffee maker. Make espressos or lattes or capuccinos at home

The other way I make coffee at home is with my Nespresso machine, pictured here. Mine is the Nespresso Inissia Espresso Machine which is their smallest one, but I find it brilliant. I have had it for years and it runs beautifully. If I ever had to replace it or buy a second one I would stick with the Inissia.I buy coffee pods whenever I’m in Europe – they cost half of the price here, so if your person is a traveler consider the original series machines rather than the Vertuo-line machines, which are not available in Europe. Not only are the Vertuo-line pods more expensive than the regular ones, (for the exact same cup of coffee no less) but you can’t buy them in Europe.

I love running into Nespresso stores when I’m over there because not only does it save me money on the pods, but also they have flavors we don’t have here, and limited edition coffees that are fun to bring home. If you are not sure which coffee pods to choose you can get a Nestle Nespresso Variety Pack which has a few of each strength and flavor. Personally I drink the Nespresso OriginalLine: Arpeggio coffee, which is the one in the purple pods. Its a really good place to start if you’re not sure what to buy. Arpeggio is a nice, full bodied coffee that is not at all bitter. If I want a medium strength coffee I buy the Nespresso OriginalLine: Roma. Roma is great for an afternoon coffee – it doesn’t keep me awake at night.

Gift Ideas For Wine Lovers

Channel your inner Olivia Pope with a glass of red wine and some popcorn, and a really good book!

Who wouldn’t want to channel their inner Olivia Pope on a cold winter’s night with a glass of red wine and some designer popcorn (and a good book!)?? You can buy the Grand Beaujolais (Set of 4) Wine Glasses that Olivia drinks her red wine from, or maybe some Bordeaux wine glasses like the one pictured above,  similar here , Amazon has a huge selection of wine glasses perfect for gifting.

There are lots of designer popcorns to chose from, or you could make it simple with Dutchman’s Popcorn – Medium Hulless White Popcorn Kernels   a non GMO popcorn that can be made on the stovetop, in the microwave or in an air popper.

Red wine from Puglia

Another great gift pairing with my book is a really great bottle of Italian wine. Not available on Amazon but available in most wine stores, try something a little different. Wines from Puglia (the thin heel of Italy’s boot) are just fantastic. I write about them in my book, with ideas of which ones to try. There is an entire chapter of the book devoted to which wines you should drink in each region of Italy. The one pictured here was actually a gift from one of my Glam Italia Tour travelers and is a Nero di Troia from Puglia, which I am saving to drink on my birthday in December.

If you haven’t read it yet I hope you will buy my book Glam Italia! How To Travel Italy: Secrets To Glamorous Travel (On A Not So Glamorous Budget)  It is a fabulous book, full of really great information for anyone planning a trip to Italy (or just dreaming about it!). It was only released in July of this year but has already been a best seller and has topped the charts in several categories.

If you are thinking about planing a trip to Italy or just want to know more about my book without being on an Amazon sales page, you can find out more here

Bonus Info

In my book Glam Italia! How To Travel Italy I talk about a questionnaire I use when planning my Glam Italia Tours or helping people to plan their Italian vacations. I also use it myself when I’m planning trips to new places. It helps me to make sure I see all the things I want to see, and not waste precious travel time doing the wrong things. Gift Ideas For Coffee Lovers

Gift Ideas Coffee Lovers

Do you have a coffee lover to buy gifts for this holiday season?

I’m a huge coffee lover. The best part of getting up each day (I am NOT a morning person!) is making coffee. Most days I use a French Press to make my coffee, with one of my two favorite Italian coffees. I am not a Folgers girl and after spending time in Italy I don’t like American drip coffee anymore, so I got rid of my 12 cup drip coffee maker years ago.

The other way I make coffee at home is with my Nespresso machine. I only got mine last Christmas, even though I  had been wanting one for years. My favorite Nespresso coffee is Arpeggio, a full bodied, rich, but not too strong blend. If you are going to Italy anytime soon you can stock up on Nespresso pods for only 35 cents each instead of 70 cents here in the USA. Be advised that the Vertuoline machines aren’t sold in Italy and you can’t buy Vertuoline pods there.

A French Press.

French Press coffee makers are fabulous. The standard size makes 2 to 3 cups of coffee. They are very chic to bring out when you have guests over for coffee, but are also wonderful for daily use. Typically you will make stronger coffee in a French Press than in a regular drip coffee maker.

I’m loving this copper French press from Target! It is very sleek, makes a gorgeous looking gift, and is only $24.99 I have Bodum Chambourd French Press,  which is silver colored. It costs a little more at $39.99, but I have had it for more than 20 years, so it has been worth it’s weight in gold. Both of these, plus a huge variety of others are available online at Target.com

A Nespresso Machine

Nespresso coffee maker

This is a great way to make an Italian cup of coffee. Where Keurigs make large cups a Nespresso is designed to make espresso style coffees. You can make cappuccinos, macchiatos, lattes etc using the Nespresso as the base for your coffee. There are several different Nespresso machines to choose from. I loved the look of the Vertuoline machines, but the coffee pods were more expensive so I went with the Inissia model. You can see it here. Its a smaller model, but is everything that I need. I love it. I didn’t know that Target carried Nespresso until writing this post, but they have a great selection of them to choose from! You can see them all here.

A Moka.

moka coffee pot

A moka makes Italian stove-top espresso, or what Italians just call coffee. The coffee is strong but really, really good! The Moka Pot pictured above is the Bialetti Moka Pot, which retails for $34.99 at Target.com and comes with free shipping. You can also find other Moka pots online at varying price points at Target.com

A Milk Frother.

Cuisinart Tazzaccion Milk Frother

To make a cappuccino or a latte you need a milk frother. I didn’t think I needed one until I got one – now I can’t imagine mornings without it! I prefer freestanding frothers to the ones that come attached to a coffee machine. They are easier to clean, and in my opinion the fewer gadgets attached to your coffee machine, the fewer things there are to breakdown. The Cuisinart Tazzaccion pictured above is just fantastic. I definitely prefer the electric frothers to the hand held ones, as they make a thicker foam. See a selection of milk frothers here.

A Keurig

keurig coffee maker

Keurigs are designed to make a full cup of coffee, in a speedier, more efficient way than a drip coffee maker. Choose between a small Keurig for just one person, or a larger model like this one pictured above. There are lots of models to choose from, you can see them all here at Target.com

Keurig Coffee Pods.

There are endless choices available for K cups (the coffee pods that go inside your Keurig). I used to have a Keurig like the one pictured above, and would have K cups for coffee, cocoa/hot chocolate for my son, apple cider – all kinds of things! You can see an assortment of K Cups here at Target.com

 Keurig Refillable Pods.

Buying pods for each cup of coffee you are planning on drinking each day can get expensive. You can buy re-useable, refillable pods that you can fill with your favorite coffee, and cut the cost down. There are several to choose from and you can see them here at Target.com

Keurig Accessories

There are all kinds of accessories available for Keurigs, from drawers to hold your K Cups to carafes, to all manner of gadgets. If your coffee lover already has a Keurig you can check out potential accessories here.

Nespresso Pods

You can buy assorted Nespresso coffee pods, flavored coffee pods, or choose to just get your favorite. The darker color the pod, the stronger the coffee. My personal favorite is Nespresso: Arpeggio.   (Arpeggio is the purple colored pod.)

A Coffee Bean Grinder

chic coffee grinders

To get the richest, most aromatic coffee you need to start by grinding fresh coffee beans. If your coffee lover enjoys freshly ground coffee beans you cannot beat this chic, sleek coffee bean grinder from Tru. The Tru Burr Coffee Grinder is only $34.99 at Target.com. You can see Target’s full selection of coffee grinders here.

Italian Coffee.

Illy coffee

My two favorite coffees are Lavazza  Crema E Gusto andIlly , both from Italy. If you come to my house for coffee chances are you will be having one of these. Or a Nespresso – I will let you choose!

Biscotti

You can’t beat a biscotto with your morning coffee! If you are buying coffee centered gifts, add a box of Biscotti to the parcel. Your coffee lover will appreciate it!

Most of the above items are available online at Target.com

I’ve been talking forever in here about buying a Nespresso machine.
I’ve had a regular cappucino/espresso machine for years and have loved it, but I have really, really wanted a Nespresso. And this was the year!
I had planned on a big, chic, chrome affair, but in the end ordered a simple Nespresso Inissia Espresso Maker, Black
I LOVE it!!!
My black machine came in a dark grey/black and doesn’t photograph well, but once I figure it out I will no doubt blog about it with pictures of my own.

It makes waking up each day worthwhile!

The chrome one I originally wanted was the Nespresso VertuoLine Coffee and Espresso Maker with Aeroccino Plus Milk Frother, Black. Chic, non?

Anyway, I now have a quick 20 minutes to enjoy a coffee and get some insta-inspo before I head out to work.

Enjoy your Friday!
